close shave

close shave

close shave Couldn’t help myself with the close shave pun but glad no one was hurt when a truck crashed into the front window at Tommy Barber at 52nd and Evergreen Way.

It happened around 11:00 AM as the driver of a pickup apparently hit the gas instead of the brake.

There doesn’t appear to be structural damage to the building.

Here are photos of the crash.

I was inside the shop, and calling 911 when a police officer walked through the door. Turned out they were sitting in the parking lot when it happened!! They must have stopped the old guy from continuing to press the accelerator!! I thought at first it was someone trying to drive through the shop on purpose!! Even after he crashed the window, he KEPT accelerating!!!! The shop was filled with the exhaust!! The only thing stopping the truck from driving into the shop was the window framing and some big file cabinets Tommy had in front of the windows. Turned out it was an old guy who confused the accelerator for the brake!! I hope this is a wake-up call for him and his family. It’s very sad, but at a certain point folks with cognitive disorders (dementia) should NOT be driving!!! My husband and I have personally had to deal with his father, Alzheimer’s, and this very issue of getting him to quit driving. Hopefully the police are going to file with DMV and he’ll be recalled to have to prove he can pass a driver’s test. They let him drive away!! It’s very sad, and I wouldn’t wish having to be the tough guy on anyone! However public safety is, and should be, the priority when it comes to this type of situation. Driving is a privilege, not a right. Unfortunately people tend to forget that, when it comes down to it.

More proof that driving re-tests should be done. Stupidity on the road. There’s 90 year old’s driving who haven’t been tested in 74 years. A lot has changed in 74 years.

    Like actual cars…

It is incredible how many articles I’ve seen on this site where a car crashes into a building.
