A portion of Casino Road in south Everett was shut down for a little over an hour Thursday night after a gas line ruptured.

It happened shortly after 10:00 PM when a hit and run crash sent a car into a fence and caused a break in a natural gas line in the 900 block of Casino Road.

A woman driving the car that crashed was not hurt. The car that fled the scene was found empty about 3 blocks away.

Everett Police closed Casino in both directions between the 800 and 1200 block.

The crash itself happened in front of the AM-PM store.

Everett Fire crews stood by along with a mutual aid crew from District 1 while workers from Puget Sound Energy shut off the gas.

Gas could be heard rushing out of the pipe and one nearby 12 unit apartment building was evacuated.

At times firefighters sprayed water over the break to determine the severity of the leak.

Once crews shut off the gas a tow truck was able to remove the car and give workers access to start repairs.

Everett Police are continuing to investigate the hit and run.

Casino Road reopened to traffic shortly after midnight.
