Rheumatologist Shawn Slack named President of The Everett Clinic.

Everett Clinic, which is about to undergo a merger with DaVita Health Care Partners, has named a new President. here are the details from Michele Graves…

Dr. Shawn Slack, a practicing rheumatologist, has been elected by his physician peers to serve as The Everett Clinic’s President. The Everett Clinic serves more than 300,000 patients in Snohomish County. Continued excellence in patient care is one of Slack’s top priorities.

Cardiologist Dr. Harold Dash finished his term on the board after 11 years of service as president. Dash joined the Clinic in 1984 to start its coronary angioplasty program and was among the first physicians to perform this lifesaving procedure in Snohomish County. He led the Clinic to national recognition for innovative care.

Slack has served on the Clinic’s Board of Directors since 2002. He joined The Everett Clinic in 1997 in Rheumatology and also worked in the Walk-In Clinic until 2010.

He was inspired to go into medicine by his grandmother who suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis. “I saw firsthand how devastating it can be. I felt that alleviating that kind of suffering and helping people live a full life would be very meaningful,” he said.

Slack is Board Certified in Medicine and Rheumatology. He earned his Medical Degree at the University of Washington School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in rheumatology there as well. He taught at the UW as a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine until 2015.

A member of the American College of Rheumatology and the Northwest Rheumatology Society, Slack received Top Doc Awards from Seattle Metropolitan Magazine in 2014 and 2015, Seattle Magazine in 2015 and The Everett Clinic’s Patient Choice Award in 2014.

In December, The Everett Clinic’s physician shareholders voted to approve a merger with DaVita HealthCare Partners (NYSE: DVA), a leading independent medical group in America and leading global provider of kidney care. The partnership is aimed at speeding the Clinic’s growth and improving patient care, access, affordability and quality. The transaction is expected to close on or around March 1, subject to execution of a final definitive agreement. The Clinic’s Board will remain intact with Slack at its helm.
