Editor’s Update January 8th 2:45 PM: Last word from Harborview Hospital is the barista is in critical condition. Here’s the latest on the cause from Eric Hicks at Everett Fire…Fire investigators today are continuing the investigation into the cause of fire that injured a barista Thursday evening.
“After reviewing security video, we believe a propane tank stored inside the coffee stand contributed to the fire,” said Everett Assistant Fire Marshal Eric Hicks. “We still have yet to interview the victim and we are hoping to do so soon.”
Propane is an odorless gas, but contains an additive that smells like rotten eggs so people can detect it. The Everett Fire Department urges citizens to leave their house immediately and call 911 if they encounter an unusual smell.
A female employee was taken to Harborview Hospital with burns after reports of an explosion and fire at an south Everett coffee stand Thursday afternoon.Calls came into 9-1-1 shortly before 5:00 PM for a fire at the Saints and Sinners bikini coffee stand in the parking lot of the Shell Station at 4th and Everett Mall Way.
One barista working in the stand was burned, taken into the store by customers, seen by medics and transported to Harborview Hospital in Seattle. No word on the severity of her injuries.
The stand and a car next to it were destroyed.
An Everett Fire investigator is on scene trying to determine the cause of the fire.
