The Jay walker should get a ticket for Jay walking and hopefully learn a hard lesson and even if he or she was handicapped what in the he’ll are u doing out at night shopping by yourself and also crossing at night in a busy road in dark clothing sounds to me that someone wanted to get hit. Really in all reality the stupid idiot should have used common sense and this could have all been avoided. Also sounds to me like a butt hurt relative disagrees with people calling who ever it is stupid and making excuses for them if you Care so much why in the world did you not help your so called friend or relative and help them go to the store and not be writing on here and defending them . I Think maybe stupidity must run in your family just saying. Anyways maybe people will stop making excuses and start following the law . Is it not what the rules and laws are for so people like this don’t get hurt. I feel sorry for the driver who hit them as they will more than likely have bills due to this person’s poor incompetence. Cross at the crosswalks people it’s what they are there for…. Also it’s the law …

If a person is ill, aged or handicapped, it’s probably a better idea to NOT go grocery shopping in the dark of night. Also, CROSSWALKS exist for a reason, TO KEEP YOU SAFE and ALERT the drivers to NOT HIT PEOPLE. I think that’s why they are painted BRIGHT WHITE and they are at almost every dang corner or intersection. I feel really bad for the driver who hit this uneducated person. Yes it really sucks someone got hit. However, they played the ONLY role in his/her own fate. The things that make you go Hmmm.

Freakin’ idiot deserved it. There’s a reason crosswalks exist. Thanks to the guys stupidity he ruined another persons day.

    • Tomas Says:

Nobody deserves that…well, maybe 1 or 2 people I can think of who have posted here recently. So chill out folks and be a little kind to someone who is truly suffering beyond what is deserved.

This person may or may not have been a genius. In this situation, they showed a lack of situational awareness that would usually be ascribed to rank stupidity.

I drove that section about an hour before this person was hit. It was raining heavily and it’s about all you can do to see the striping on the asphalt, let alone dodge unaware humans playing Frogger poorly.

I’m sorry if this person was your kin. However, your being offended doesn’t change what happened objectively and your taking offense is an attempt to redirect attention to yourself, which is a far more serious character flaw than frank or even rude assessment of a given situation.

I’m surprised this doesn’t happen on Broadway I see the people just jay walk any where they want to and they walk slow while they’re at it. My sister takes the bus everywhere has for years and would NEVER think to just cross the street wherever she wants to she knows better than that she takes her life into her hands just by using the crosswalks!! I hate jaywalkers that lollygag across the street they cause accidents!!

What a lazy society we live in! I’m surprised more people aren’t struck by cars crossing that busy road without using the crosswalk. Especially when it’s dark and rainy. Then factor in the lights from the vehicles. .. its very difficult to see that random person (or persons) wearing dark clothes standing in the turn lane as they wait to finish crossing the road. I’ve narrowly missed colliding with someone a few times. It is very easy to see how less-than-intelligent people get hit. Walk your lazy butt to the crosswalk and you’ll have a better chance to see tomorrow.

  8. Chris Says:

I drove by it last night just after it happened. I live very close by. If the struck pedestrian was coming back from one of the 2 grocery stores in the area, there are several crosswalks between them and where they were hit. Definitely should not be accused of being “stupid” but rather negligent is the correct word. In either case let that be a lesson for our children and us all.

  9. Anonymous Says:

Well said Bedelia. The word stupid is a bad word in our house.

  10. Kylie Says:

Its tragic, but we knew sooner or later this was going to happen. We conatantly see this kind of situation. My husband and I see people running across with a cross walk less than ten feet away, or running across with kids in tow. How stupid can you be? Here in Everett, personally, I’ve been almost hit by a car in the cross walk dozens of times… The cars speed or simply dont stop. Do people honestly think that theyre going to pay attention when there is no stop light?

    • Bedelia Says:

I hear your point, but (and yes, I am intentionally negating the first half of my sentence by using the word ‘but’), I imagine it would add to your family’s pain if you were in serious condition and someone called you ‘stupid’.
While crossing may have been unwise and unfortunate, there may have been numerous reasons to do so (disability, for example, can make every extra step excruciating, and getting to far-off crosswalks can be difficult. Or perhaps the person was otherwise compromised.) — regardless of the reason, with _or_ without more information, calling someone ‘stupid’ isn’t necessary, it is ableist, and unkind.
Commenting from the safety of anonymity doesn’t hurt nearly as much as getting hit by a vehicle.

iI know this man I’ve known him since he was a youth.yes he does have disabilities. He was cold and hungry and just wanted to get home. He made a quick decision he’s not perfact but we all should be watchful when the weather is bad and it’s dark .Everett is a city area not a freeway. He is in intensive care has undergone a lot and in speaking to his mom and Dad they are devistated.im praying for a recovery.

    • gemma Says:

You try walking a mile extra to get to a freaking crosswalk with kids, groceries have some compassion you asshole

      • Jordan Says:

Or, or, don’t Jay walk in the @#$%^&* dark and pouring rain.

      • the truth is Says:

it WASN’T ANY EXTRA WALKING DISTANCE to a crosswalk. There is a crosswalk at EACH grocery store, this person could have crossed right there.
