Editor’s update 11::45 AM: Everett Fire Marshal’s office says the fire started in a box where batteries were being stored. No word yet on when the store may re-open.

Toys R Us fire Toys R Us “Deals must have been too hot” jokes have already started but a serious situation with a 2-Alarm fire at the Toys R Us store on Everett Mall Way.

Everett Fire Marshal Rick Robinson tells MyEverettNews.com the fire was reported at 7:32 AM.

Initial reports are several boxes caught on fire in the back room and sprinklers activated containing the fire to the back of the store.

Employees made sure the store was safely evacuated.

Everett Firefighters entered the building but did not have to use water from their truck. Mutual Aid crews came from District 1 to assist and crews from outlying districts are answering calls in the city until Everett Fire crews decontaminate and return to service.

At this time the fire investigation is under way and there is no word yet if the store will reopen today. Michael’s next door was not affected and is open.
