Barrel From Everett’s Bluewater Alaska Bound

Here’s something unique from the folks at Bluewater Organic Distillery on the Everett waterfront…

Bluewater is excited to launch the Bering Sea Barrel Expedition 2015-2016, in partnership with Captain Keith Colburn of the legendary F/V Wizard! A very special barrel of Bluewater Akvavit is currently voyaging up the Inside Passage to join the “Deadliest Catch” crab fleet. The Wizard will take possession of the barrel in Alaska, as it sets out on the Winter’s Opilio crab season.

Akvavit is a caraway-infused spirit, rooted in Nordic culture and best paired with seafood at festive gatherings. We like to think of this aromatic spirit as Viking Gin.

This eclectic spirit also has a strong connection to the sea, with certain varieties traditionally being sent across the oceans in barrels to benefit from the rolling motion aboard a ship.

A custom steel cage was welded to contain the barrel through the rolling and thrashing it will endure on the high seas of the Alaskan arctic. While most aged spirits gently rest in their storage areas, this barrel will be subjected to the most extreme conditions imaginable.

Updates on the Expedition will be shared as they come available. We expect the Wizard to return to Seattle in April, hopefully with one very special barrel aboard.
