Each year, a select group of homeowners and business owners are honored for their efforts to beautify Everett by enhancing their properties’ “street appeal.” The 21st annual Monte Cristo awardsceremony will be held Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Everett Performing Arts Center.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Everett neighborhoods and admire some truly beautiful homes,” said Deborah Wright, director of neighborhoods and community services. “We invite community members to join us for a fun and inspiring evening.”
The Monte Cristo awards recognize Everett residents and business owners for their extensive efforts to make their homes and businesses attractive and to keep them well maintained. Awards are given in three categories: Rejuvenation and Transformation, Pride of the Neighborhood and Neighborhood-Friendly Business. Each winner receives a plaque for the exterior of their home or business.
“It’s always tough to choose which properties to recognize,” said Wright. “The committee was impressed by all the hard work that went into this year’s 39 winning homes and businesses.”
Mayor Ray Stephanson, City Council President Scott Bader and other city officials will recognize this year’s winners at the Oct. 8 ceremony. The celebration starts with a 6:30 p.m. reception followed by the awards presentation at 7:10 p.m. The ceremony will feature photo presentations of the winning homes and businesses.
During the event, Wright will present the coveted Marian Krell Award, which recognizes superior care on an ongoing basis by a prior Monte Cristo award winner.
A committee of Everett residents, many of whom serve on the Council of Neighborhoods, made the final award selections. The awards are sponsored by the Everett Council of Neighborhoods and the City of Everett Office of Neighborhoods. Local businesses also contribute to help sponsor the annual event.
