Arsenic cleanup means Legion Park will completely shut down on Tuesday until early next year.

This Holiday weekend is your last chance to enjoy the ballfields, playground and picnic area at Legion Memorial Park until next year. Here’s the reminder from the Everett Parks Department…

The Department of Ecology and the City of Everett will close the northern portion of American Legion Park on Tuesday, Sept. 8, to continue soil cleanup. The south portion of the park closed earlier this summer as crews began the process of removing arsenic-contaminated soil from the park, and replacing it with clean soil.

The north portion of the park, which is home to the picnic shelter, playground, restroom facilities, American Legion Hall and ballfields, will remain open through Labor Day weekend. On Tuesday, Sept. 8, crews will close the north side of the park.

The entire park will stay closed through spring 2016, when it is scheduled to reopen. During the closure, the bluff overlook area on the west side of Alverson Blvd. will remain open, as will the bluff parking area. Legion Memorial Golf Course will not be affected, and will remain open through the soil cleanup.
