Drivers who use the Hewitt Avenue Trestle on US 2 between Lake Stevens/Snohomish and Everett should be prepared for full nighttime closures of the westbound roadway Monday, July 13 through the morning of Friday, July 17.
From 6 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. nightly, traffic will exit westbound US 2 at Ebey Island, continue west on 20th Street Southeast and re-enter the highway at the Homeacres Road on-ramp. Drivers should expect some congestion and delays and are advised to add extra time to their trips.
Pavement repair work
During the closure, Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance staff will make pavement repairs on the trestle, including repairing potholes and cracks on the roadway. This work is vital to continue to give drivers a safe, smooth trip along the highway.
“There’s never a good time to fully block a roadway,” said WSDOT Assistant Maintenance Superintendent John Tellesbo. “But this is work we need to do to keep our infrastructure in good shape. We appreciate the cooperation and patience of drivers while we get this important work done.”
The full closure is necessary to allow WSDOT crews and vehicles to safely work across the entire roadway. The trestle lanes are too narrow for the work to safely be done with single-lane closures. The full closure also allows a large amount of work to get done in a shorter time period rather than extending it over several weeks.
