Major Recreational Marijuana Public Hearing In Everett Tonight

I 502 in Everett

Everett is looking at making permanent changes to recreational pot rules.

It could be another long meeting for the Everett City Council tonight. Council members will discuss making permanent the interim regulations that have been in place for the past year regarding the growing, processing and retail sales of marijuana under I-502. Of the five retail marijuana stores authorized by the State within the Everett city limits one year ago only three stores are operating. A fourth store is awaiting a proposed change to city zoning rules that will be part of tonight’s discussions while another is still under construction in south Everett. There currently are no legal marijuana producers or processors operating within the city limits. Under the interim regulations only the smallest operations, known as Tier 1 are allowed. No one has applied for one of those licenses but the proposed permanent regulations would allow one Tier 2 processor and one Tier 3 processor within the city limits. You can see all of the proposed changes to the ordinance here.

City Council members may accept the changes, reject some or all of the changes or make amendments as they see fit. Before any vote there will be a public hearing. Each speaker is allowed three minutes. If you’d like to speak you need to sign up before the start of the meeting. It begins at 6:30PM in the Everett City Council chambers at 3002 Wetmore in downtown Everett.
