At the Wednesday mid-day Everett City Council meeting members will get their first look at permanent recreational marijuana laws as proposed by the Everett Planning Commission. Changes to the current interim laws include the city allowing Tier 2 and Tier 3 producers and processors. Under the interim regulations only Tier 1 producers and processors were allowed. So far no one has applied for a Tier 1. The permanent regulations would only allow one Tier 2 and one Tier 3 within the city limits. A special property use hearing would have to be held to approve the plans. It looks like there is also a provision to allow marijuana production-processing at the old Nord door site.

Another change would be to allow Brian Bodge, the owner of Globodyne, holder of the 4th retail marijuana permit issued for Everett by the State to open in his location just south of the Holiday Inn Hotel next to I-5. Currently that location, though given permits by the State does not meet city zoning rules. The proposed permanent rules would make it possible for the shop to comply. There are also proposals for minimum design standards for future retail marijuana stores. You can see all of the proposed recommendations here.

All of this is in the hands of the city council who can approve, change or deny any or all of the proposed permanent changes. This first look is only a briefing and the public will have a chance to weigh in. There will be a public hearing on the permanent proposal at the July 8th Everett City Council meeting. This weeks meeting will be held at 12:30 in the Everett City Council chambers at 3002 Wetmore in downtown Everett and can be view live online or on the city’s cable access channel.
