Sometimes Everett Firefighters and Police have to rescue people from themselves. That was basically the case today as a man wallowed in the mud for several hours at the north end of the 10th street boat launch. At mid-morning a man walked into the mud on the north side of the boat launch and then went northeast several hundred feet into the mud and started rolling around. Police checked on him verbally and he advised he was just fine and wanted to be in the mud. At times he would become belligerent and also somewhat disoriented. After a couple of hours the man stopped moving. With the tide beginning to come in and increasing concerns for the man’s well being, Everett Firefighters were called to try to extract the man. A firefighter in a dive suit walked out from shore along a relatively stable area of the mud flats and began talking to the man who did respond. When the firefighter walked toward the man, the firefighter quickly sunk to his knees and withdrew to more stable ground. After about 30 minutes of conversation the man agreed to stop laying down and rolling around in the mud and follow the firefighter back to dry land. A second firefighter came out and after an introduction and conversation the man followed the firefighters back to shore. There were a few fits and starts but he finally made it in. He was then cleaned off and transported to Providence Regional Medical Center for an evaluation. Here are a few MyEverettNews.com photos from the scene today. Click to enlarge.
