Bus rapid transit will be coming to southwest Everett long before light rail.

On Wednesday, Community Transit officials updated the Everett City Council on plans for a new Transit Center at 75th and Seaway. The center will service the expansion of Swift Bus Rapid Transit in Everett. Currently Swift Bus Rapid Transit travels between Everett and Aurora Village primarily on highway 99. This second line would run from 75th and Seaway to Canyon Park in Bothell using Airport Road-128th street and the Bothell-Everett Highway. There would be 15 stations in each direction. Planning is underway now using a grant from the Federal Transit Administration. No city of Everett investment is needed but a public vote may be required to authorize an increase in local sales tax to fund the expansion. Current projections say it would be three to four years before the line begins service.
