There’s no way around it. When the City of Everett closes Broadway between Hewitt and California to replace the aging bridge over the railroad tracks traffic will become an issue. One way to help mitigate that is to give drivers in Everett as much information as possible. The City of Everett is making real-time camera images available of the Broadway bridge detour route. Currently there are four cameras operating to give drivers an advance look at the areas impacted before heading out. Here’s more information from Meghan Pembroke at the City of Everett…

Drivers should prepare for a full closure of Broadway Avenue between Hewitt Avenue and California Street for up to a year while crews demolish the existing 100-foot by 100-foot span over the main railroad tracks and build a new bridge from the foundation up.

Through the rest of December and into January, crews will complete minor work to get the detour routes ready for next year’s full closure, including sign placement, signal modifications and restriping. Drivers can expect single-lane closures on Broadway and nearby streets during non-peak hours later this month as the detour routes are prepared.

The bridge replacement project contract was awarded to Interwest Construction in October. The new bridge is expected to open to travel by early 2016. The total project cost, including design and construction, is $13.6 million.

Drivers can follow construction progress and check conditions on detour routes with new traffic cameras available on the project website.
