Citing the fact that it would cost too much to move the stands and re-sell them at auction, the City of Everett today began demolishing a pair of the coffee stands it acquired after an investigation into illegal acts at five bikini stands. The stands that are being torn down are in the 12500 block of Highway 99 and the 11300 block of Evergreen Way. Here’s an update from City of Everett spokesperson Meghan Pembroke…
City crews today demolished two coffee stands that were previously owned by Carmela Panico. The stands were forfeited to the city as part of Panico’s guilty plea in September. Our building officials inspected the structures and determined that they are not up to code and would require significant investments to bring them to a condition where they could be sold and operated.
Crews removed usable equipment from the stands and will offer the equipment for sale through our surplus process in the coming weeks.
We continue to work through the seizure process with the remaining three stands previously operated by Panico.
Editor’s Note: There are still a half-dozen other bikini stands still operating within the Everett city limits.
