The barge ended up on Mission Beach

Gusty winds have been causing a few problems this Thanksgiving. About 9:00am a barge broke loose in Everett and went across Port Gardner Bay ending up just east of the houses on Mission Beach. A tugboat was able to secure the barge. The photo of the tug pulling the barge is from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Twitter Feed. Other photos from MyEverettNews.com. Click photos to enlarge.

UPDATE: Here’s a bit more detail from Shari Ireton at the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office…The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit responded to a runaway barge this morning in the Port Susan/Mission Beach area. A call came into 911 around 9 a.m., that a barge moored off Jetty Island had come loose and was drifting in the channel between Hat and Camano Islands. The Marine Unit located the vessel, which turned out to be two barges lashed together, beached on the breakwater at Mission Beach. A tug from Foss Maritime towed the vessel to safety and all units were safely out of the water by noon.

Weather conditions, including three to five foot wind waves and winds up to 30 knots, may have contributed to the vessel becoming unmoored.
