Sarri Gilman Honored For Service To Everett and Snohomish County

United Way of Snohomish County held its annual Spirit of Snohomish County breakfast this morning celebrating those who make this area a better place to live. Sarri Gilman received the Reeves/Sievers Founder’s Award for a lifetime of community service. Gilman founded Cocoon House in Everett which provides homeless and at-risk teens with a safe place off the streets to receive needed help and services. She also served as executive director of Leadership Snohomish County which develops community leaders in Everett and the surrounding communities. Everett based Coastal Community Bank received the Spirit of Snohomish County community partner award for its work in the aftermath of the Oso landslide.

Among the many individual award winners were two Everett residents. Kim Tran received the Spirit of Snohomish County youth award for her volunteering over the last four years in multiple projects for United Way. She’s a member of the United Way’s Teen Leadership Council and has worked to raise the visibility of youth volunteering in our community. The Spirit of Snohomish County Labor Award recognized Paul Schubert for his long time volunteer work through IAM District 751 including spearheading a peanut butter drive for Volunteers of America and years of service for Toys for Tots.
