It’s hard to run from police in a big motorhome with a picture of a huge tiger’s head on the back but that’s what one 33-year-old tried to do Tuesday night. It all started around 5:30pm with a report of a stolen motorhome at the Wal-Mart at 11600 Highway 99 in south Everett. An Everett police officer tried to contact the motorhome and it took off from him and went across 99 and down Center Road. A short time later the motorhome was spotted by a sheriff’s deputy who briefly chased it into Everett and northbound on Broadway before a sheriff’s supervisor terminated the pursuit. The motorhome was then seen driving erratically by Everett Police thru the streets of central and north Everett but officers did not pursue the motorhome. They did receive a report that it struck a car as it went eastbound the wrong way onto the westbound ramp of the Hewitt Avenue Trestle. The couple, who were driving their brand new car, were not hurt. About 10 minutes later there was a report of a police pursuit of the motorhome into Granite Falls and Shari Ireton has issued the following press release regarding that part of the incident…

The pursuit of a suspected motorhome thief that began earlier tonight in South Everett ended in Granite Falls when the suspect crashed into a house and several vehicles. The Mountain Loop Hwy is currently closed at Gun Club Rd as Collision Investigation Unit detectives investigate.

The incident began earlier today around 5:30 p.m. after reports that a stolen motorhome was seen in the South Everett area. Everett Police located and followed the vehicle. The motorhome driver made his way to SR 9, where Washington State Patrol troopers and deputies from the Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver continued northbound to SR 92 and towards Granite Falls, allegedly swerving at WSP, Sheriff’s Office and civilian vehicles along the way. The driver is believed to have lost control of the motorhome, left the roadway and collided with a house and several vehicles off of the Mountain Loop Hwy between Quarry and Gun Club Rds. An adult male who was in one of the vehicles was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

After a brief foot pursuit, the 33 year-old male suspect was located in a nearby home and taken into custody around 6:40 p.m.

Photos of the Granite Falls scene were from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Twitter Feed.
