9:25pm Update: Here is the latest on the shooting from Aaron Snell at Everett PD…

Major Crimes detectives are investigating a weekend shooting at a local elementary which injured a teen.

Just after 6:30 p.m. on May 3, 2014, officers were dispatched to Horizon Elementary School (222 W. Casino Rd) on the report that a male had been shot. Arriving officers found a teen on the basketball court with a gunshot wound. Officers were told a small group of teenagers were playing basketball when a group of 15-20 males in their late-teens came to the court. A verbal argument turned physical and a teen from the original group playing basketball was shot. As officers arrived, the group of late-teens left the area. Officers immediately began searching for the gunman with the assistance of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office helicopter (SnoHawk). Several teens possibly associated with the shooting were located and detained for questioning.

During the search, a police K-9 found a handgun in a nearby apartment complex. It is unknown if the gun was used in the assault.

Everett Fire assessed the injured male and transported him to Providence Regional Medical Center for treatment. His current condition is unknown.

Officers were told by witnesses that the gunman was a male in his late teens, skinny, bald and wore a blue t-shirt and jeans.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit are investigating the incident. At this time, no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 911 or the Everett Police Department TIP LINE at (425) 257-8450.
