On May 3rd 1975, USS Nimitz (CVN 68) was commissioned by Rear Adm. Richard E. Rumble, Commander, Fifth Naval District, at Pier 12, Naval Station Norfolk, VA. President Gerald R. Ford was in attendance. This photo is taken from the ship’s Facebook page. The Nimitz officially arrived at Naval Station Everett on March 9, 2012. Currently the Nimitz is out to sea on flight deck qualifications. It’s the first time out to sea since the Nimitz returned from a nine month deployment in December. Since returning there are 400 new sailors on board and many are seeking to get their qualifications. No word on when the ship will be back in Everett.
