Update on Everett garage fire as provided by the Everett Fire Department…
This morning Everett firefighters responded to a garage fire that broke out shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the 7100 block of Olympic Drive. A male resident was sleeping in the detached garage and woke to fire in the area where he was sleeping. He got down low and escaped through the back door. Once outside, he grabbed a garden hose and attempted to extinguish the fire.
When firefighters arrived they found black smoke coming from the garage. It took 19 firefighters about an hour and a half to completely extinguish the fire. The male resident who was in the garage at the time of the fire was evaluated by paramedics and released.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and the estimated property damage is unknown at this time.
There were no smoke alarms in the area where the resident slept. The Everett Fire Department reminds residents of the importance of smoke alarms in areas where people sleep. The early warning of smoke in a home can mean the difference between life and death.
