In an effort to make sure the cute factor goes to 11, the folks at the Everett Animal Shelter have issued the following cute puppy video starring some of the pooches who will be at the Everett Performing Arts Center this Saturday for Shakaroo…
MyEverettNews.com is happy to be a supporter of Shakaroo and we’ll be there taking pictures of the event. In case you’d like to come (and we really think you should), Here are the details…
What started as an idea from a fun local band has become one of the Everett Animal Shelter’s most popular – and unique – events. The shelter’s third annual SHAKAROO benefit concert, featuring shelter dogs in a “pooch parade,” is set for 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Everett Performing Arts Center.
SHAKAROO features live music from local reggae/rock band Nigel Mustafa. “They approached us a few years ago about doing a concert and giving us the proceeds,” said Dee Cordell, shelter operations coordinator. “The performing arts center offered up the venue, we came up with the idea of including dogs from the shelter and SHAKAROO was born.”
The name comes from the Hawaiian term “shaka,” meaning to “hang loose,” said Cordell. “We added the ‘roo’ to mimic a dog howling at the end of a bark. The name really fits the carefree, fun feeling of the band and of the event.”
For many attendees, the highlight of the evening is the Pooch Parade featuring 20 adoptable dogs from the shelter. The dogs get a chance to strut their stuff on stage and perform any tricks they know. Intermission is a Whine & Wine meet and greet with the dogs, which are available for adoption at the shelter starting the following day at 10 a.m.
“The event is really fun and is a great evening for the whole family,” said Cordell. “Our dogs enjoy their time in the spotlight and love meeting all of the guests. It’s a great chance for people to get to know the shelter and in past years, all of the dogs who are a part of SHAKAROO have been adopted within a couple of weeks of the event,” said Cordell.
All of the funds raised during the event support the shelter’s vet clinic, which provides medical care for shelter pets.
