Colby is the face of Everett Police Crime Prevention

This was posted on the Everett Police Blotter today. A good reminder not to send money to anyone by an unusual manner or sudden request…

An officer is dispatched to a harassment complaint. A female tells the officer she received a call from a male in the 303 area code asking for a $7,500 loan with a payback of $8,250 over the full term of the loan. The female was asked to put the money onto a Green Dot card and provide the number to the male. The female talked with a friend who told her NOT to do it. When the male called back and the female said she didn’t want to make the loan, the male became abusive and told the female to make the loan or pay a penalty. The female refused and hung up. The officer attempted calling the number but could not get through to anyone. However, he received a return call from the number within minutes. When the officer identified himself, the line went dead… The female was told to stop taking calls from the number and a report was written.

Colby Tip: These types of calls are scams! Never provide personal or financial information and don’t give money to solicitors. If you want to donate, research an organization and contact them directly.
