Here’s the Nimitz in Italy from the ship’s Facebook page

The Navy confirmed today that the USS Nimitz has left Italy and is headed home. Here’s a part of today’s release…

The Nimitz Carrier Strike Group reentered the U.S. 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR) after transiting the Suez Canal, Nov. 8.

The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68), along with embarked Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 11, Carrier Air Wing 11, and Destroyer Squadron 23, spent nearly three weeks in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations conducting exercises with NATO allies and making a port call in Naples, Italy.

Back on October 21st the Navy reported that the carrier would be headed home once operations in Italy were completed…

USS Nimitz will operate in the Mediterranean Sea and train with international partners before returning to her homeport of Everett, Wash.

No word exactly when the Nimitz will be back in Everett but there is a good possibility it may be in time for Christmas.
