Capitol Christmas Tree Stopping in Everett on Way to D.C.

Capitol Christmas Tree in Everett, WA

The Capitol Christmas Tree will be in Everett Friday Nov. 8th

There will be an early Christmas Celebration in downtown Everett as the “Capitol Christmas Tree” makes an appearance this week. Here’s what you need to know…

The 2013 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will pay a visit to Everett as part of its state tour before continuing to Washington, D.C. The tree comes from the Colville National Forest in Washington’s northeast corner.

Snohomish County Executive John Lovick and other local officials will greet the tree, and visitors can enjoy musical performances, a costumed Santa, and Smokey the Bear characters. Visitors can also take photos in front of the tree. The musical schedule will feature the following performances:

10 – 10:45 a.m. The Everett Chorale

10:45 – 11:30 a.m. Snohomish County Children’s Choir

11:30 –noon Jenny Vick, local singer-songwriter performing songs from her 2011 album, It’s Christmas Time

Representatives of Colville National Forest will be available to answer questions about the tree. Kids also will have the opportunity to become pen pals of kids in other communities where the tree stops, and enjoy activities while snacking on gingerbread cookies.

Festivities are free to the public and presented by the Snohomish County Executive Office and the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau and will be located at the Snohomish County Campus at 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

“This is Washington’s gift, and people throughout the state are excited to help celebrate this honor,” said U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Coordinator Jennifer Knutson. “The 2013 theme, Sharing Washington’s Good Nature, highlights the natural resources, scenic beauty and generous people in the state.”

Washington is gifting a 60-to-80-foot tree, as well as 65 accompanying trees to be displayed throughout the Capitol complex. As part of this gift, the citizens of Washington are asked to make and donate about 7,000 ornaments to adorn the trees.

Youth between the ages of 5 and 19 who make an ornament and submit an entry form are entered in a drawing to win a free trip to Washington, D.C., to represent Washington at the lighting ceremony.

This is the second Capitol Christmas Tree from Washington State; the first was displayed in 2006. Learn more about the Capitol Christmas Tree project online at www.capitolchristmastree.com.
