It’s still early in the investigation but here’s the official word from Everett Police Spokesman Aaron Snell on that shooting behind Denny’s Restaurant in south Everett Tuesday night.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit are investigating a fatal shooting outside a business.

At about 8:30 p.m. on October 8, 2013, officers were dispatched to the 8400 block of Evergreen Way when 911 received calls that a man had been shot outside a Denny’s restaurant. Arriving officers found a male on the ground outside the business. The scene was secured and Everett Fire provided emergency medical aid to the man who ultimately died. Officers contained the area and searched for possible suspects. None were found, but a police K-9 located a handgun which is believed to have been used in the incident.

Witnesses believe the incident may have occurred at the motel behind the Denny’s restaurant and told officers that a vehicle had left the location at a high rate of speed. Officers located the vehicle at an apartment complex in South Everett and several people were detained. At this time, detectives are questioning the people to determine if they were involved in the shooting.

The man fatally shot is believed to be a 39 year-old from Seattle. It is unknown if he knew who shot him or the reason he was at the location.

Detectives are currently talking to witnesses and working on search warrants to move forward with the investigation.

The Snohomish Medical Examiner’s Office will take custody of the body to determine identification as well as cause and manner of death.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 911.
