The Everett Silvertips play 3 home games in 4 days next week.

VANCOUVER, BC – Four different goal scorers helped the Everett Silvertips improve to 2-0 on the young season with a 4-1 victory over the Vancouver Giants Friday night at Pacific Coliseum.  With a road win now under their collective belts, the Silvertips hope to continue their early success with three home games next week in Everett.

Hometown favorite Manraj Hayer, Josh Winquist, Carson Stadnyk and Kohl Bauml found the back for the Silvertips.  In his first game of the season after returning from the NHL’s San Jose Sharks, Mirco Mueller helped set up a pair of Everett goals.  Forward and local product Jujhar Khaira, an Edmonton Oilers prospect who also re-joined the ‘Tips this week, recorded an assist in his WHL debut and goaltender Daniel Cotton earned the win in his first start of the year.

Everett killed off two Giants powerplay opportunities to start the first period, keeping the game scoreless until past the 14-mark.  The Silvertips then opened the scoring off a defensive zone turnover by Vancouver, with Manraj Hayer ripping a quick centering feed over Payton Lee’s blocker for his third goal of the season.  Each team put eight shots to the net in the first and the ‘Tips took a 1-0 edge into the locker room.

The Silvertips extended the lead early in the second period on a perfectly executed rush.  Precision passing from Jujhar Khaira and Cole MacDonald set up a wide-open net in front for Josh Winquist, who tapped in his fourth goal of the year to make it 2-0 Everett at 2:53.  The ‘Tips had two straight chances to extend the lead on the powerplay, but it was the Giants who would notch a powerplay goal late in the stanza.  Anthony Ast tipped in a point shot from Arvin Atwal with less than three minutes left in the second to cut the Silvertips’ lead to 2-1 through 40 minutes.

It took just 20 seconds in the third period for Everett to regain the two-goal advantage as Carson Stadnyk poked in the rebound of a booming Mirco Mueller slapshot to make it 3-1.  The ‘Tips had successfully killed off a Vancouver powerplay midway through the period and were on the verge of another when they forced the Giants to ice the puck.  Dawson Leedahl won the ensuing faceoff right to Kohl Bauml, who quickly snapped a shot inside the post for a shorthanded goal to put the Silvertips on top 4-1 with less than eight minutes remaining.  Despite being outshot 26-21 on the night, Everett held the lead to earn its first road win of the year.

Daniel Cotton (1-0) won in his hometown for the third time in the last two seasons, stopping 25 shots in his first appearance of the season.  Giants goaltender Payton Lee (1-3) took the loss with 17 saves for the home team.  Everett finished 0 for 4 on the powerplay, while Vancouver scored once in five chances.
