Everett Police Spokesman Aaron Snell confirmed that a shot fired call at the Everett Mall Macy’s Tuesday afternoon was the result of an altercation between Macy’s Loss Prevention personnel and a suspected shoplifter. Snell tells MyEverettNews.com that about 5:45pm Macy’s called 9-1-1 to report their loss prevention people were struggling with a suspected shoplifter near the west entrance to Macy’s. Shortly thereafter there was a report of a shot fired. Snell says when Everett Police officers arrived on the scene Macy’s loss prevention had the suspect detained. A weapon was recovered and the suspect reportedly had some minor injuries from the scuffle. No one was hit by the round that went off. Everett Police did treat the scene like an active shooting scenario and went into Macy’s and cleared the store to make sure there were not any other suspects in hiding. Detectives are interviewing the suspect and witnesses. Snell says the suspect is 26 years old from Everett and will likely be booked into jail later this evening. The Mall remained open while the Macy’s store did close.
