KONG

An old version of the KONG logo. KONG is actually licensed to serve Everett not Seattle!

Not a lot of people know it, but there is an over-the air TV station licensed to serve Everett, WA. It’s KONG – TV UHF Channel 16. The station was first licensed in January 1984 as KONN but an early owner decided to change the call letters to KONG. That didn’t make the folks at KING too happy but there was little they could do about it. KONG first tried to go on the air off of Hardeson road in south Everett but ran into multiple issues. Challenges to the transmitter site kept the station off the air until 1997. Belo, owners of KING-TV, bought the station in 2000 and have been operating it as a sister to KING-TV. Today Belo was purchased by Gannett. You can read all about that here.
