No Injuries as Amtrak Passenger Train Derails in Everett

A mudslide just east of Howarth Park in Everett caused an Amtrak passenger train to derail just before 9:00 this morning. The Empire Builder was on its way to Seattle from Chicago when the slide occurred. There were between 80 and 90 people on the train but no one reported injuries. Passengers were moved from the back three cars to the front of the train which then un-coupled the derailed cars and continued to Mukilteo. From there the passengers were bussed to Seattle. Amtrak says passenger service will not resume on the line until mid Tuesday morning. That means the Sounder Train will also not run on Monday or Tuesday from Everett.
