Providence Regional Medical Center and the American Heart Association are teaming up to host an important event this weekend. Here are the details…

Providence Regional Medical Center is hosting the American Heart Association’s (AHA) HeartChase this Saturday, April 6, with registration open at 8:00 a.m. and the HeartChase starting at 9:30 a.m. HeartChase is a fun-filled race where teams visit various stations throughout Everett to participate in heart-healthy challenges all the while gaining points. After HeartChase, the Providence Heart and Vascular teams are hosting a Free Heart Health Festival in the Providence’s Colby Campus Medical Tower lobby on Saturday, April 6 at 11:30 — 1:00 p.m. Even if you aren’t participating in HeartChase, bring your friends and family to the Heart Health Festival for a fun, free and educational good time. Heart Festival booths include:

· Meet a Cardiac Surgeon: Watch a cardiac surgeon perform bypass surgery on a pig’s heart

· Cardiac Services: See how a heart/lung machine circulates blood during cardiac surgery

· InsideOut: The Original Organ Show: See how unhealthy behaviors such as smoking affect real human organs

· Stroke Awareness and Prevention: Get a free blood pressure screening

· Providence Medical Group Cardiology: Take an online heart risk assessment and review your results with a cardiologist

· Cardiac Tools: Learn how a pacemaker, defibrillator and other cardiac tools work

· Heart Failure: Find out how heart failure develops / what can be done to prevent it

· Tour a Medic Unit: provided by Everett Fire

· Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab: Get your weight and BMI measured and learn about heart disease prevention

· Good Nutrition is Preventable Medicine: Learn the role nutrition plays in heart health

· Echo-cardiography Demo: See how the Echo machine works for cardiac testing

· Vascular Surgery: See how Doppler ultrasound is used to find blockages in the carotid artery
