The Port of Everett is looking for a Chief Financial Officer and a Chief of Economic Development. Here’s what the Port is looking for in a Chief Financial Officer

The Chief Financial Officer must have superior written and oral communication skills. This must also include highly developed listening skills. The CFO must have a flexible leadership approach, be willing to listen to new ideas, and try innovative approaches to problem solving, including an explanation of complex financial situations.
The Port of Everett has a well-established process for completing financial audits that has resulted in a history of exceptional audit results. The management transition in the position of Chief Financial Officer presents an excellent opportunity to build on that history and expand the role of the department to include performance audits. This will require a CFO with broad-based experience and a proven ability to direct sensitive projects in collaborative and constructive manner.
This is a senior level position that requires a significant understanding of the discipline. The Port of Everett has a fast-paced, results oriented culture that requires a high-energy, outgoing individual who can successfully operate within a team-oriented environment. The Chief Financial Officer will lead a department that embraces the concept of continuous improvement through such tools as lean methodologies
and performance audits in addition to traditional financial analyses
and services.
A proven record of advancement and personal stability with past employers must be evident. This is a position of public trust; personal integrity and ethics must be beyond reproach.
Experience and Education
This position will require an individual with credible experience in a senior financial management role in an organization with extensive management of revenue sources and public sector accounting requirements. Specific experience and knowledge of GAAP and GASB and related principles and practices are required. Candidates must have experience in management in a financial function, involving establishment of goals, practices, and budgets.
It is preferred that candidates for this position have a Bachelor’s Degree in finance, business administration, public administration, accounting, economic, or closely related disciplines. Attainment of a Master’s degree and a CPA designation would be valuable assets. Candidates for this position must have a minimum of ten years experience in fiscal management that includes providing information on policy-making decisions. The Chief Financial Officer leads the Health Benefits Committee, is involved in union collective bargaining agreement negotiations, and has a small staff. It is important that candidates have proven supervisory experience including no less than five years in progressively responsible positions. Demonstrated understanding of the principles and tools of public finance is mandatory. Specific experience in the development of strategic financial plans, establishment of performance audits, investment of public funds, and the review
of financial policy options are required.
Salary and Benefits:
The position of Chief Financial Officer has a starting salary range of $125K to $135K, depending on experience, plus excellent benefits including a retirement program and excellent medical dental benefits for the employee, spouse and dependents

The Chief of Economic Development should have the following qualifications…

The Chief of Economic Development is a senior leadership position that is highly visible within the Port and the regional community. The position will require a unique ability to apply broad economic development concepts to specific revenue generation opportunities and objectives. Success will require collaborative leadership skills with
a variety of regional partners and Port staff and the ability to gather and direct resources from a variety of sources towards a common, measurable goal.
Candidates must have proven understanding of both public sector and private sector business dynamics and needs, the ability to seek out and develop appropriate partnerships and relationships including congressional and legislative. A solid understanding of the principles and practices of the economic development profession including marketing, industrial and commercial recruitment, financial incentives, and land development is essential.
As a frequent interface with the community, the Chief of Economic Development must be a poised and accomplished communicator who enjoys the role of business catalyst and diplomat. As a key advisor to the Executive Director and Commission, the Chief of Economic Development must understand the role of the Port within the community and actively
embrace the Port mission statement. Candidates should be proven consensus builders, team players, and facilitators who can lead multi-faceted organizations toward common goals. The successful candidate will be a person of strong technical abilities, able to attend to detail, yet be able to maintain a broader vision and remain focused on the overall mission. The position of Chief of Economic Development has exceptional breadth and crosses every aspect of Port business, including a significant international component. Candidates must have the ability to deal simultaneously with a broad range of issues and projects.
