In advance of a scheduled Wednesday vote by Everett City Council, dozens of area medical cannabis patients are expected to march on Everett City Hall and protest City Council classifying medical cannabis as a “nuisance.” The proposed ordinance would make it impossible to locate a medical cannabis collective garden inside Everett city limits, 18 months after City Council enacted a temporary moratorium on collective gardens in the city. Area patients feel strongly about getting safe access to medical cannabis in their community and will gather outside Everett City Hall to make sure City employees and elected officials hear from them.
Everett’s action is controversial and, if the ordinance is passed on Wednesday, would likely lead to legal action against the city, as collective gardens are specifically allowed under state law at RCW 69.51A.085.
The Everett City Council is holding a public hearing and possible vote on the ordinance Wednesday night at 6:30pm at 3002 Wetmore in downtown Everett.
