Socktoberfest To Benefit People Experiencing Homelessness in Everett, WA Sunday

Socktoberfest

Donations of socks as well as time, effort and cash are all accepted at Socktoberfest. Click to visit their official website.

Sunday evening the folks at Trinity Lutheran College in downtown Everett are holding their 2nd Annual Socktoberfest. What’s Socktoberfest? We’ll let the official Socktoberfest website explain…

We asked, they answered. What do they need? Socks!!

Looking around Everett, it’s easy to see that there are many people in need. In an effort to reach out, we asked a few homeless folks what we could do to help them. What did they really need? Something simple? Something helpful? And the answer that always came back: SOCKS.

And so we’re collecting socks. Please donate New Adult Pairs. Collection bins can be found at various locations around Everett, including Trinity Lutheran College, Zippy’s Café and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

And then, on Sunday, October 21st at 5pm, all are invited to the Trinity Lutheran College commons (with or without socks) to celebrate the 2nd annual Socktoberfest! There will be live music, bratwurst, door prizes, locally brewed root beer and SOCKS!!!

Socktoberfest began last year after Everett Public Library employee Debbie Paget learned firsthand from a group of homeless community members whom she met at the library of their need for warm socks during the cold winter months. Paget and members of the Trinity Lutheran College community addressed that need by holding the first Socktoberfest on October 30, 2011. The first event distributed over 1,000 pairs of socks to those who attended. Here are some way you can help this year…

1. Give a $ donation: 100% of the money donated to Socktoberfest will go towards socks, a hot meal for event attendees, and additional expenses for this year’s event. Every little penny helps!!Write checks to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with “Socktoberfest” in the memo line. THANK YOU!!!

2. Volunteer: We’ll need help setting up, tearing down, decorating, greeting, BBQ-ing, serving root beer, sock modeling… you name it! Just let us know and we’ll include you in the day’s festivities. Many hands make light work, or so they say.

Donate NEW ADULT SOCKS at a donation bin near you!

The sockless of Everett thank you for your help. And don’t forget, YOU’RE INVITED!!
