The city of Everett is telling folks in north Everett that a water main break may have their tap water discolored for a few hours today. Here’s a release from Kate Reardon at the city…
EVERETT – A city water main break near Chestnut Street and Hewitt Avenue at about 8:45 a .m. today has stirred up iron sediment in the drinking water system and has discolored water coming out of the tap in parts of north Everett. The discolored water is an aesthetic issue not a health concern.
City crews are repairing the line and have turned water off to six customers. Water to those customers is expected to be back on at about 1 p.m. today.
City crews advise that if you are experiencing discolored water, you may want to follow these water-use tips:
· Refrain from washing light-colored laundry as clothes could stain
· Water may taste and smell objectionable, but it is safe to use
· Once the line has been repaired (expected to be about 1 p.m. today) if you are experiencing discolored water, run the cold water in your bathtub for 15 minutes or until water turns clear
· If the discolored water continues after running the bath water, call the public works 24-hour line at: 425-257-8821
