Everett City Council Accepting Applications For Nielsen’s Seat Until 10:00am Tuesday

There are seven members on the Everett City Council

If you’re interested in serving on the Everett City Council for the remainder of this year you have until Tuesday to get a resume and cover letter to the city. The city council has until June 11th to fill the seat that had been held by Drew Nielsen. He was killed in a rafting accident on the Green River earlier this month. The appointment is only temporary, until the end of the year, when voters will decide on one of five people who have filed to run to fill the remaining 3 years of Nielsen’s term. Here are the requirements for those who may be interested in applying…

Applicants are asked to submit a resume and cover letter and must be at least 18 years old, a resident of the city with at least one-year residency and a registered voter. Materials must be submitted no later than 10 a.m. Tuesday May 29 to the Everett City Clerk’s Office, 2930 Wetmore Ave.

Once the applications are submitted, council members will be provided with packet of candidates to review independently. Each Council member will give one nomination in a sealed envelope to be opened on May 30, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. council meeting. The top candidates will be interviewed and Council members will vote in open council June 6, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. Council may hold a special meeting to conduct interviews and vote for the applicant if need be. The position must be filled by June 11, 2012. The interim position will serve until the November 2012 general election is certified.
