The Everett School District is still trying to sort out what to do with make up days as a result of losing four days last week to the snowstorm. There are also High School Graduations scheduled for June 16th that may have to be re-scheduled. Here’s what they know so far from the Everett Public Schools InTouch Newsletter

When is the last day of school? We traditionally add missed days to the end of the school year. We will work with OSPI for clarity about the make-up requirements set by Washington state law. We hope to have that information soon. We must remember that there is a lot of winter left for us. If we lose more school days to bad weather, we face additional calendar adjustments.

When is high school graduation? Commencement can be no more than five days before the last day of school. Adding four days to the end of the school year would make graduation, currently June 16, three days sooner than allowed.

Changing a published high school graduation date is a challenge because of family plans and Comcast Arena’s tight schedule. We will know more about high school senior attendance requirements and graduation when we have clarity from OSPI about:

The length of the school year
If we are able to submit waivers for days lost to the storm
Any other possible options and requirements for making up missed school time

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we adjust to the challenges created by what many are saying is the region’s worst storm in years. We will resolve these and other schedule questions as quickly as we can.
