Snohomish PUD to Install 2nd Wind Turbine at Everett Operations Center

The proposed turbine would generate between 2.5 - 10 kW of energy

The Snohomish PUD is asking the City of Everett for permission to install another wind turbine at their operations center near 75th and Seaway in south Everett. The turbine would sit on an 80 foot tower with a 23 foot diameter blade. The overall height of the turbine and tower would be 92 feet which is 27 feet taller than the current height limit allowed by Everett’s zoning code. Everett’s planning commission has scheduled a public hearing on the proposal for 9:00am on Thursday January 19th, at city hall. Written comments are also being accepted by the planning commission. Neil Neroutsos, a spokesperson for the Snohomish PUD says if approved, this would be the second turbine to be installed at the facility. “We are testing these small wind turbines to better understand how well they perform, gather production data and learn about maintenance and operations,” Neroutsos said. “As more of our customers install wind units in the future we want to serve as a resource.” The proposed wind turbine would join a different style of unit that was installed at the 75th street site in the fall of 2010.
