Another inmate has died in custody at the Snohomish County jail

For the second time in 60 days, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an in-custody death at the Snohomish County Jail. On November 11th, My Everett News reported that a 27-year-old woman died while in custody. This morning, Sheriff’s Office Bureau Chief Kevin Prentiss released the following information about a male inmate found dead in his cell yesterday…

On December 21, 2011 at approximately 4:25pm, Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Snohomish County Jail at 3025 Oakes Avenue, Everett on a death investigation. Preliminary information indicates an inmate, a 32-year-old male and Mill Creek resident, was discovered in his module unresponsive and hanging from his bed with a bed sheet tied around his neck. A routine module check of the victim at 3:50pm showed no unusual signs of activity or problems. A second module check at 4:27pm was when the victim was discovered. Corrections deputies immediately began CPR efforts and telephoned for medical assistance. Everett medics arrived and began advanced life saving measures, but were unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced deceased.

The victim was booked into the jail on December 21, 2011 on charges of one (1) count of Violation of Uniformed Controlled Substance Act (VUCSA) and seven (7) counts of Possession of Stolen Firearm. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit were called and will be handling the investigation, per office procedure.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released the man’s name or determined the cause and manner of death. In the November case, still no word on what may have caused the death of the female inmate. Authorities are still waiting on toxicology reports from the State Crime Lab.
