Everett City Council Unanimously Passes Property Tax Increase

November 9, 2011

Everett Government

After a short presentation by the city of Everett administration on property tax collections over the last 10 years, the Everett City Council tonight unanimously passed the 1% property tax increase asked for by Mayor Ray Stephanson in his proposed 2012 budget. As part of their presentation, the administration showed how a failure by the city council to pass the 1% property tax increase this year would lead to a 1.7 milion dollar shortfall over the next 5 years.

Next up for the City Council are public hearings on the 2012 budget. The first hearing was opened this evening with no one from the audience speaking up or asking questions. Next week all of the City of Everett department heads will be at the public hearing to address specifics on their individual departments. It will be the second of three public hearings where citizens can express opinions and provide input on how their tax dollars will be spent next year.
