Two-Alarm Fire Destroys Everett Daycare in Eastmont Neighborhood
Red Apple Preschool-Daycare was completely destroyed
Crews from District 1, Lynnwood and Mukilteo spent several hours last night fighting a blaze at the Red Apple Preschool-Childcare on 86th street SE in the Eastmont area of Everett. According to Fire District 1 Spokesperson Leslie Hynes, neighbors started calling 9-1-1 about 9:15 last night reporting flames shooting from the building. A ruptured natural gas line fed the flames and delayed efforts to extinguish the fire. Crew from Puget Sound Energy had to be called out to dig up the gas line in order to turn off the gas. No injuries and no one in the building at the time of the fire. Damage was extensive with the cost estimated to be about $450,000.00 to the 4600 square foot building. A crew is still on the scene putting out hot spots. Investigators will spend today trying to determine a cause.
