I just received this statement from Kimberly Clark regarding the possibility that they will be shutting down the Everett Plant if no buyer can be found…
Here is our statement:
· As previously identified, Kimberly-Clark has been in the process of seeking to secure sale of the Everett Mill and Pulp operations since January 2011. K-C has worked extensively to vet potential buyer candidates interested in continued operations of the Everett mill.
· At this time, while we continue to pursue a possible sale agreement for the Everett mill, we must also plan for the absence of this outcome. Earlier today, we shared with our employees that we will begin preparations for scale-down and closure of the Everett Mill.
· Our intent in announcing this today is to provide as much notice and visibility to our employees as possible and to ensure ample time to work in good faith with local mill management and union representatives to make necessary preparations for closure.
· Though we are preparing for shutdown, we will continue to pursue a possible sales agreement with prospective buyers.
Also, we have about 750 employees in the Everett Mill. I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
Bob

Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson had a phone call with Kimberly Clark this morning and issued this statement…
“I remain hopeful that a buyer can be found to keep the pulp mill running and maintain the hundreds of family-wage jobs on the city’s waterfront.”
