Cedar Grove Saga Continues – The Seattle Times

August 22, 2011

Everett

“It isn’t your grandmother’s backyard compost pile.

In the new world of industrialized composting, garbage trucks and semis unload food scraps and yard waste in tipping buildings the size of aircraft hangars.

Scooped up by front-end loaders, the material is ground and shaped into 450-ton heaps resembling colossal meatloaves, then covered with fabric and aerated by computer-controlled fans.”

The Seattle Times has a good overview of the continuing efforts by Cedar Grove Composting to combat odors coming from their composting operations here in Everett and at their Maple Valley location. The story, written by Keith Ervin, describes both the actions of Cedar Grove and the efforts by neighbors affected by the odors they say are coming from Cedar Grove’s operations.
