Regional Fire Authority that would serve an area with three times the population of Everett and cover 115 square miles. The cities of Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Mountlake Terrace, Mukilteo and Woodway along with Snohomish County Fire Districts 1 and 7 are in talks to form a Regional Fire Authority. Three elected officials from each jurisdiction serve on the RFA Planning Committee which will hash out levels of service, who pays for what, how the authority would be governed and other details. Once a consensus is reached, a ballot measure will be put before voters in all of the affected areas. If voters approve, the various departments would consolidate, combine equipment and personnel and form a single fire department. The entire process is expected to take between two and three years. The public is invited to observe the process with the next meeting of the planning committee set for Wednesday night, August 3rd at Rosehill Community Center in Mukilteo. The meeting runs from 6 – 8pm. You can also find out more about the process at the Regional Fire Authority’s new website by clicking here.
