The last major grocery store on Everett Mall Way will be closing its doors in 4 -5 weeks. Back in February, the Top Foods store at the east end of Everett Mall Way shut down and now the Cost Cutter at the west end of Everett Mall Way is on the way out. After seeing the store closing signs on the building Friday I asked a clerk about the closure but she said she couldn’t speak and about it. I’ve left a message with the corporate office in Bellingham and will pass along their reasons for the closure. One thing this store offered was a huge selection of ethnic foods from a wide variety of places. Not sure if the surge in smaller specialty stores has hurt Cost Cutter or, if on the other hand, they couldn’t compete with the Mega Chains like Winco and Wal-Mart. Looks like Trader Joe’s and Grocery Outlet will be battling it out for customers on Everett Mall Way.
