More than 1800 students will receive diplomas this class year, the largest number in EvCC’s 69 year history. On Friday, more than 500 of those students will participate in this year’s commencement program. The program will be held on the EvCC campus inside the student fitness center by invitation only. An overflow viewing area will be set up inside the Parks student union for those without tickets.
This year’s commencement speaker is Louis Harris of Everett. Harris was injured in an accident involving a drunk driver in September 2006, leaving him paralyzed for two months. In addition to advocating against drunken driving, Harris is an EvCC student senator, secretary of the Back Student Union, a member of Students for Environmental Action and vice president of United Nakama for Japan, which has raised more than $2,000 for the American Red Cross to aid victims of the Japanese tsunami and earthquake. After graduation, he will study psychology at Washington State University.
Congratulations to all of the students graduating this year. Good luck in your future endeavors.
