Will Everett’s Elected Leaders Get a Raise or Pay Cut? Salary Commission Looking for Input

March 9, 2011

Everett Government

First established in 1997, The City of Everett Citizens’ Commission on Salaries of Elected Officials will meet on Monday for the first in a handful of meetings to decide on the salaries of the Mayor, seven City Council members and two district court judges. The first meeting will be held at noon Monday March 14 in the eighth floor hearing room of the Wall Street Building, 2930 Wetmore Ave.

The Commission will draft a proposed salary schedule for elected officials that will be available for public comment at the following public hearing dates:

Noon Monday March 21, 8th floor hearing room, Wall Street Building, 2930 Wetmore Ave.

6 p.m. Thursday April 21, 8th floor hearing room, Wall Street Building, 2930 Wetmore Ave.

I do find it interesting that on the City of Everett’s web site under Boards and Commissions in Everett there is no mention of the Citizen’s Commission on Salaries. I know these people are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Council but I can’t find a membership list of the Commission. People often complain about the salaries of elected officials, I wonder how many of the complainers will actually show up at one of these meetings and provide some input. What do you think, a raise or a pay cut?
