Search 4Everett Police Dive crews are still on Everett’s Silver Lake searching for a person believed to have drowned Friday afternoon. Divers from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office are assisting Everett Police with divers, boats and a remote underwater video camera. Everett Police Lt. Robert Goetz who is coordinating the search confirmed for MyEverettNews.com that this was an observed drowning and is now a recovery effort. A witness called 9-1-1 around noon saying they saw someone drowning in Silver Lake. Police and Fire crews responded. Firefighters were able to mark the general area where the person went under. They towed back a small boat as well as some boots and a hat. People familiar with a person who reportedly went fishing and has not returned did identify some property. Goetz says the search will continue tonight until dark and then they will re-assess. We’ll update as more information becomes available.

The new dock on Silver Lake is now open to the public

Earlier this week I posted pictures of a new dock on the west side of Everett’s Silver Lake. Today I noticed the security fence was down and I was able to get some information from City of Everett public information director Kate Reardon about the new dock…

The dock was constructed by Blackwater Marine of Kirkland at a cost of about $150,000.00 including removal & demolition of the old dock and steel pilings and fabrication & installation of new pilings and dock.

The dock is to be used for fishing and launching of non-motorized watercraft such as kayaks, rowboats, canoes and rafts. No gas-powered engines are allowed on Silver Lake except for emergency rescues and authorized sporting events.

The dock and surrounding area is not open to swimmers. They have to stay in the marked off swimming area to the east of the new dock.

The new dock is environmentally friendly and is made of high density polyethylene (HDPE) for an extremely long lifespan and the deck material is fiberglass to allow light penetration into the water.

The dock is at the south end of Thornton A. Sullivan Park

Free Movies at Silver Lake in South Everett

Cinema Under the Stars is back at Silver Lake in south Everett with a VIP event Friday night.

The latest season of Everett’s Cinema Under the Stars kicks off Friday night (July 20th) at the Camp Patterson Field in Thornton A. Sullivan park on Silver Lake. For the past six years the event has been sponsored in part by McClain Insurance and owner Claudia McClain tells me this year they’re pulling out all the stops. “Movie goers will get the red carpet treatment (literally….we’ve rented a red carpet!) and each kid will receive a golden “Movie Buff” award statue (think Oscar look-alike) from McClain Insurance. Our longtime company partner, PEMCO Insurance, will be attending with their Wally van, and will be creating custom VIP photo passes on lanyards for each attendee. It should be a fun night,” said McClain.

Village Theatre Kids Stage will be providing the pre-show entertainment at 7:30 performing vignettes from Alice in Wonderland and the movie Wall-E will start at dusk. Admission is free and you should bring a blanket to sit on. For the complete summer schedule and full details check out the Festivals and Events page on the city of Everett’s website.
