EVERETT – Everett Fire Department crews were dispatched to a residential fire in the 6400 block of Fleming Street at 3:30 this morning. Arriving crews found a duplex heavily involved in smoke and flames. Crews located one resident in a bedroom in the initial search and moved the person outside where crews initiated CPR, but the man could not be revived. Four people living in the north side of the duplex evacuated after a passerby who noticed the fire pounded on their door. No one from that side of the duplex was injured. The passerby, who had been the one to call 911, indicated he pounded on the south-side resident’s door and window with no response. Crews had the fire under control at about 3:50 a.m. Damage to the structure is estimated at $300,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation. A report on the progress of the investigation will not likely be available until late Monday morning.
